NFL Draft 2014- Top Picks and Also Some Interesting Thoughts

Jadeveon Clowney, DE, another great prospect gets drafted first overall to the Houston Texans. He is a big guy standing at 6’5″ and weighing in at 266 pounds, but he is able to run quickly and will make a good addition to this teams defensive line. This is great for them because they will have an awesome defensive line this year and can hopefully do as well if not better than they did in 2012.

Johnny Manziel, quarterback at Texas A&M, the highest prospect for the 2014 draft goes to the Cleveland Browns, will this help them win more games? What’s shocking is that he was the 22nd pick after so much speculation over him all year. I think they are still lacking a lot for their team. Regardless of getting a brand new shiny quarterback, you have to have a team that can back him up and catch the ball. We can hope for the Browns that this quarterback is worth it. Also, we can hope that Manziel will put in the work to prove himself, unlike great college quarterbacks before him like Matt Leinart. Where is he anyway? Poor guy can’t stay at one team and after bouncing around year to year from Cardinals to Texans, Raiders to Bills he is now a free agent, in case anybody wants him!

Michael Sam, DE, goes to the Rams and the whole world goes crazy. Honestly who cares about what he does in his personal time. He’s a decent player who tries hard and plays hard during each game. Although the Rams may be worried because Oprah just secured him a documentary of his life outside the Rams. They have agreed to film everywhere except the Rams facility, which may keep his head out of the game.

Ha’Sean Clinton Dix goes to the Packers in the 20th pick overall. He is a good free safety, and he is fast. I think this is a good pick for the Packers, this will help Clay Matthews and Kuhn get some help on the defensive line. The Packers though obviously need a stronger offensive line to protect Aaron Rodger’s from getting sacked eight times in one half and I hope that they found what they are looking for in the rest of the draft.

Plenty of interesting picks this year but these few are the most talked about, and favorites of the draft. I can’t wait until pre-season to see how everyone performs. If you have anything you’d like to add, or anyone you want to chat with me about then comment below! I would love to hear from you!

Donald Sperling: What’s next?

LA council has just backed the NBA in the initiative to ban Donald Sperling, Clippers Owner, from games and practices for life. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was set to give the owner an award this Saturday but have since taken the offer away. This would have been his second award. His mistress leaked the recordings of his racist comments, although she denies it, and instead of apologizing he tells the news he wishes he would have just paid her off. Many fans are boycotting games, but with game seven against the warriors tomorrow, fans are eager to see how this will play out.

Tarik Black: Possible NFL player?

Tarik Black is a senior at University of Kansas, he’s 6 foot 9 and 260 pounds. He’s currently playing basketball, and hopes to play pro one day, but he could be playing in the NFL this year. Why? Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers quarterback, went to a Kansas game, invited by the coach, and really found an interest in Tarik. Such an interest that he wants him to come play for Green Bay! Tarik has no football experience, and was surprised my Aaron’s genuine interest in him. He wasn’t sure he wanted to try for the NFL, and wasn’t sure Aaron was serious about his intent, but decided to text him anyway just to make sure. Aaron Rodgers There are currently three NFL teams expressing their interests in getting him to come play tight end for them. He is still hoping to play for the NBA but right now is considering all of his options.

Who watched the Orange Bowl last night?

Ohio State vs Clemson

A game ridiculed by dirty plays and tackles, injured players, and interceptions. Both teams played tough and fought hard. Unfortunately for Ohio State, Clemson defense were prepared for junior Braxton Miller. They almost seemed to know each of his plays ahead of time, and when he threw the ball there was a Tiger there to smash it to the ground. Tahj Boyd played well, throwing for 378 yards, Sammy Watkins set records with 16 catches for 227 yards. Braxton Miller threw for only 234 yards. Ohio State had the chance to win in the last two minutes of the game, but Braxton Miller threw an interception causing Clemson to win 40-35. Coach Meyer, Ohio State, says this loss will sting because they didn’t finish.

Wild Card Weekend

Congratulations to the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints for winning today’s games. The Colts had a difficult game against the The Kansas City Chiefs but were able to pull out a 45-44 win in the last minutes of the game. They will go on to face either the Denver Broncos or the New England Patriots. The Saints were able to win 26-24 over the Philadelphia Eagles and will go on to play the number 1 seed Seattle Seahawks on January 11th. Stay tuned for updates during the San Diego Chargers atCincinnati Bengals game and the San Francisco 49ers atGreen Bay Packers game!

Farewell to Candlestick

Bay area sports fans have watched the San Francisco 49ers and Giants play there for 40 years. Tonight marks the last NFL game in Candlestick park. The park affectionately named, the Stick, was home to Willie Mays and Willie Mccovey also football stars today such as Colin Kaepernick. The Giants have been playing in their new stadium for several years, and the 49ers will move to Levis Stadium in Santa Clara. Positive side to this is were also saying goodbye to the extreme cold temperatures and wind tunnel stadium. Farewell Candlestick, may your memories live on forever!

Packers at Lions

The early Thanksgiving game started out slow in the first quarter. The second quarter started out promising with back to back field goals. Detroit had the ball but it was fumbled and intercepted by the Packers to bring the score to 10-3. This is unfortunately where the Packers would stay for the remainder of the game. Matt Stafford recovered from some early mistakes to throw 3 touchdown passes. The Lions dominated all three quarters and eventually won 40-10. The lions are now 7-5 and are the lead in the NFC North followed closely by the Bears who are at 6-5 awaiting Sundays game against the Vikings. The Packers fall to 5-6-1 with their 5th straight loss since Aaron Rodgers broke his collar bone. Thankfully for packers fans Rodgers was practicing this week and says that he should be playing in next weeks game against the Falcons.

On a different note, Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Hannukah to everyone! Hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend with your families and friends. Thanks for reading Sports With Specht each week!
